Welcome to the Gallery

Here is a sample of a number of fine artists representative of the Black Hills region and South Dakota. The work of these artists can be found throughout the Black Hills region. Many are known throughout the Western United States and the world.

Each art sample contains biographical information and pricing information on each piece. It is not intended to provide all the art available at the gallery. 

We hope you enjoy what you see and read about the artists. Each person (and many more not listed here) has numerous pieces for view and purchase at the Gallery located on 7th Street between the two one-way streets (Main and St. Joe) in downtown Rapid City. Our hours are 10am 'til 5pm weekdays  and 9am 'til 1pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Other times are available by appointment.

Ramona Kurten

Ramona Kurten produces beautiful artwork.  This piece, entitled “Home of the Brave,” shows true patriotism during enduring times.  Her original sketch becomes even more unique and powerful when her age is taken into consideration; Kurten is only a 12 year old artist.

John Backlund

Backlund gives us this playful twist on the cowboy.  Instead of rounding up livestock or roping in a rodeo, this cowboy rides a bird and lasso’s butterflies.

Titled “Butterfly Roundup” this piece shows a different image of the rough-and-tumble west. 

Ken Fox

Re-done in black and white to perfection, the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker is a powerful image of flight.  

Matted with the original photograph and framed in black to accentuate the gray and black tones of the piece.  Dimensions: 22 ½" x 23" Price: $221.15

Coca Cola, the symbol of good times, good memories,

and a cold refreshing drink.  Framed to match that perfect

Coca Cola red, this piece is a wonderful memory-catcher. 

Cathy Comish

This Comish piece is absolutely stunning.  Blending abstract art with the reality of the relationship between mother and child make this original work truly wonderful.  The distinct lines and blending of two people compare and contrast Comish’s artistic talents. 

Disney

This Disney framed print shows that even cartoons are patriotic.  Mickey is giving the United States a big salute and shows his national pride in front of the Stars and Stripes. 

 Matted in suede and framed in a beautiful gold frame, Mickey is the perfect patriot.  Dimensions: 15" x 18".  Price: $156.95

Mick Harrison

This piece by Mick Harrison shows a little cowboy mischief.  Keel-hauling another cowboy on a make shift, shovel sled....the perfect western winter fun.  

This Harrison work is framed in classic western barn wood and a beautiful suede mat to match the western feel of the piece.

Dennis Linn

This is an incredibly unique work.  Dennis Linn portrays these people walking through the rain into the city.  Within the canvas though, he shows not only perfectly blended color and image but a wonderful representation of reflection.  Entitled “Seoul,” this piece stimulates just that: reflection. The original work has been beautifully framed with an elegant antique silver frame over a black frame liner.

Frieda Iron Cloud

Frieda Iron Cloud is an artist in her own right, married to Del. They reside in Rapid City, SD.

 This original piece entitled "Pearlesque Bison on Suede" is 18 1/2 " x 16 1/2 " for the completed, ready to hang project. It sells for $343.95 in the Gallery.

Jim Yellowhawk

Mixing culture, color, and concept, Jim Yellowhawk gives this wonderful print.  Entitled “ 4 Winds,” the piece brings out Native American culture and religion and binds it with South Dakota and the culture surrounding the Black Hills.  Apart from the culture, Yellowhawk also gives us the metallic power and freedom of the motorcycle.
